Il progetto riguarda la ristrutturazione e l’ampliamento di una casa privata in centro storico in un paese Campidano. Il tessuto edilizio storico circostante è caratterizzato dalla piccola scala e dalla presenza della tipologia abitativa tradizionale della regione: la casa a corte. Si tratta del modello introverso tipicamente mediterraneo, opportunamente orientato, scandito dalle facciate murarie chiuse sulla strada e dal micro-ambiente aperto e dinamico dell’interno.
La proposta mira a restaurare il fabbricato esistente sul fronte strada in qualità di laboratorio e disegnare la nuova casa sull’impronta della precedente, così da preservare l’identità storica e tipologica dell’isolato. Tutti i corpi di fabbrica rappresentano la reinterpretazione del modo tradizionale di vivere la cultura rurale del Campidano.
Il nuovo volume principale si colloca trasversalmente e al centro del lotto, che risulta così diviso in due corti. L’edificio si sviluppa su due livelli, mentre un corpo aggiunto ad un livello si trova perpendicolare, addossato al lotto, nella corte posteriore. All’interno, la casa riflette i bisogni primari dell’abitare. Gli interni sono semplici e minimali. I muri sono intonacati bianchi, i pavimenti in resina di un leggero tono caldo e gli arredi in legno chiaro. All’esterno, le due corti rappresentano il sistema introverso e allo stesso tempo aperto essenza della cultura Mediterranea.

The project concerns the restoration and new design of a private lot located in the historic district of a small town in southern Sardinia. The urban fabric is characterized by the small-scale and the presence of the traditional Campidano region’s building type: the courtyard house. This is an introverted model, with a curtain wall facade on the street and an open, properly oriented, micro-environment inside.
The proposal aims to restore the existing building on the street as a laboratory, and to design the new house on the footprint of the previous one, thus preserving the historic and typological identity of the neighborhood. All the buildings represent the reinterpretation of the traditional way of living, based on the rural and farming culture.
The new main volume is located transversally in the center of the lot, which is split in two courtyards. It develops on two levels, while a single level additional volume stands opposite, on boundary of the lot, in the backyard. Inside, the house reflects the basic needs of living. The interiors are simple and minimal. The walls are of white plaster, the floors are made with a warm tone resin and furniture is of bright wood. Outside, the two courtyards represent that introverted but open micro-environment as the essence of the Mediterranean culture.
